CASTLEFORD TIGERS have added Gareth Whittaker to their backroom team as head of performance.
Whittaker joins the club from Huddersfield Giants, after enjoying spells in the same role at Warrington and Salford. At the latter he formed a key part of new Castleford boss Paul Rowley’s staff.
He also spent five years with the Welsh Rugby Union body.
Whittaker said: “I’m over the moon really to be joining. I came and met the club a couple of weeks ago and they talked to me about the vision and what they want to build up here.
“It fits with my philosophies of what I want to do and there are a lot of exciting things going on both on and off the field, training facility-wise and stuff like that. So it was a good decision to join Castleford.”
Whittaker has explained how his relationship with all four coaches at the Tigers – Paul Rowley, assistants Simon Grix and Luke Robinson plus technical coach Marc Sneyd – will stand the club in good stead moving forward.
“I’ve worked with Paul, Simon, Luke and Marc before so know them all very well. I worked really closely with Rowls during the four seasons we spent at Salford, so I knew it would be a case of coming in and hitting the ground running.
“I know exactly what his expectations are, how he wants his days to run, how he wants his conditioning to run. It made the decision really easy knowing that I know the systems he wants to put in place.”
