LEIGH LEOPARDS coach Adrian Lam admitted it was “tough to watch” his side’s 42-6 defeat at Warrington Wolves, which put them bottom of Super League.
They conceded a try in the opening two minutes and Lam admitted: “We missed the jump from the start of the game.
“We had a couple of late changes at training during the captain’s run, then Tesi (Niu) pulled out this morning.
“That upset the confidence I think, and it showed in the way that we started.
“The first set, I think they scored off the back of that and it just went sideways from there.”
Leigh have a lot of injury problems this season, but Lam is confident his team can still make the play-offs once everyone is fit and on the field.
“We have to stay positive,” added Lam.
“It’s easy to point the finger and get angry, but in the last month we have lost two players nearly every week as we are going along.
“We lost Jack Hughes and Tesi Niu this week. There is no point yelling. Ideally, I would make some changes and put pressure on the players to defend and play better, but I can’t do that so I need to stick with them and be positive.
“I don’t really look at the ladder, whether we are top or bottom. It’s about the process week-to-week. It certainly builds pressure, doesn’t it?
“I know that when we have a full team, we will be fine. The great thing about the competition at the moment is everybody is beating everyone.
“The top two and top five aren’t too far ahead really in the bigger context of the season.”
