WARRINGTON WOLVES coach Sam Burgess admits he is not looking too much into their 42-6 scoreline against Leigh as they prepare to face the Leopards again in next Saturday’s Challenge Cup quarter-final.
Burgess is expecting a big response, saying: “I think they will get a few bodies back and it’s the Cup, so of course it’s a different proposition.
“We will enjoy today, but it is like any game we’ve played this year – we will put it to bed early in the week and move on, get back to ground zero and get some hard work done.”
Burgess is also refusing to get carried away after watching his side go top of the Super League ladder.
When asked if being top at Easter meant anything, he replied: “Not really.
“They told me on Sky earlier that we have been top before in 2024 and 2025 and it shows it really counts for nothing.
“It’s only round seven, so it is early. It doesn’t count for much until it’s round 27. We won’t get carried away, we will just keep grinding away and doing our job.”
Burgess revealed that fullback Cai Taylor-Wray will play against Leigh next week after recovering from a hamstring problem, although he expects to be without Jordy Crowther who suffered a fractured cheekbone in his 200th career game.
