LEIGH LEOPARDS won’t play a home game at the Progress With Unity Stadium until mid-July – but head coach Adrian Lam is determined to turn that into a positive.
Each summer a new pitch is laid down at Leigh Sports Village during the football off-season (Manchester United’s women also use the venue), with the Super League fixtures planned accordingly.
Having said farewell in style with a 42-6 home win over Hull FC two weeks ago, Leigh don’t play there again until the visit of Castleford Tigers on Saturday, July 11.
In the meantime, last Friday’s 24-14 victory at Castleford will be followed by away games at Bradford Bulls (this Saturday), Hull KR and Toulouse Olympique, plus a Magic Weekend fixture with Warrington Wolves.
Lam is keen to see what his side are made of, hoping that a run of meaningful results will pave the way for success towards the end of the current campaign.
“Our home ground has been ripped up so we’ve got a lot of away games from here on in,” Lam said.
“It’s going to be a difficult period. It is tough but we’ve got a philosophy around it as we’ve been successful with it in the past.
“If we can find a way to be successful in the next quarter of the season then it gives us a whole heap of games at home in the last quarter.”
Six of Leigh’s final eight regular-season matches will be at the Progress With Unity Stadium.
