Barrow Raiders coach happy to hand out Super League debut

BARROW RAIDERS coach Amanda Wilkinson handed another of the club’s Under 19 stars a Super League debut when they travelled to Leigh Leopards on Saturday.

Injuries are currently majorly impacting the Cumbrian side, meaning they were only able to name three substitutes on the bench for the 20-18 victory.

Following on from Sam Unsworth being handed a debut against Leeds last weekend, Zara Clough was promoted to Wilkinson’s side for this weekend, with the winger making an instant impact by scoring the game’s opening try after just six minutes of the 20-18 defeat.

“It’s nice to be able to give some players an opportunity,” said Wilkinson.

“You get injuries in Rugby League, and we’ve picked up a couple and had some girls on holiday, so it was an opportunity to bring a couple of the 19s in and give them some game time.

“Zara is a promising young talent, so it was great to get her out on the field, and Sam was able to back up her performance from the Leeds game.

“They are two young, talented players, who don’t look out of place.”
