Wakefield Trinity bolster squad with early Emre Guler move

WAKEFIELD TRINITY have brought Emre Guler in early to further boost their squad for the Super League run-in.

The St George Illawarra Dragons prop had already signed for Wakefield from next season on a three-year contract.

But he has been released prematurely from his contract with the NRL club in order to join Trinity now.

It’s the second Australian boost to their forward pack following the addition of Catalans Dragons back-rower Zac Lipowicz on a short-term deal for the remainder of the season.

The pair join with Wakefield looking to arrest a recent slide after losing two successive matches, and with holes beginning to form in their middle unit.

Seth Nikotemo was recently released after returning home to Australia for personal reasons – leaving Wakefield with two overseas quota spots available.

Isaiah Vagana dislocated his shoulder in last Saturday’s home defeat to St Helens, when Wakefield were already without Jay Pitts due to a ruptured bicep.

Trinity will also be without Jazz Tevaga for Friday’s trip to Wigan Warriors after he received a one-match suspension.

When Lipowicz’s signing was announced, coach Daryl Powell said: “After losing several players to injury over the last ten days, it has become really important for us to strengthen our numbers as we move towards the crucial part of the season.”

Guler, 28, has 126 NRL appearances to his name, 93 of those over seven seasons with Canberra Raiders before two years at St George.

He goes straight into Wakefield’s squad for the Wigan game.
