Cardiff Blue Dragons pull off upset to reach Welsh Wheelchair Grand Final

SUNDAY’S Welsh Wheelchair Grand Final will feature SOUTH WALES JETS and, following one of the biggest upsets in recent years, CARDIFF BLUE DRAGONS.

The Blue Dragons are in the decider, in the picturesque spa town of Llandrindod Wells, courtesy of a stunning 36-24 triumph over reigning champions NORTH WALES CRUSADERS.

North Wales were 14-10 ahead midway through the first half, thanks to tries by debutants Flynn Evans (two) and Jude Evans, with Ethan Neilson landing the first of his two goals.

Cardiff stormed into a 24-14 interval lead, established through a brace apiece for Sian Morris-Parker and Lee Sargent, with Tomos Parker contributing a try and a conversion and Libbie Sargent improving one score.

The Crusaders pegged the Blue Dragons back to four points with the help of a Noah Evans try, but the underdogs eased home with two more Lee Sargent touchdowns and a Wyatt Jones try.

Stuart Williams’ late score was nothing more than a consolation effort for Norths.

Cardiff were unable to celebrate until the second game, between ABER VALLEY WOLVES and South Wales, had been played.

A win for Aber Valley would have denied the Blue Dragons a berth in the decider but a second upset was never likely in a fixture in which the Jets, who enjoy a 100 percent winning record this season, prevailed 60-10.

Leighton Morris led the way with five tries and two goals, while Jamie Reynolds scored four tries and a couple of conversions.

Dane Oram crossed twice and kicked a goal, Hannah White dotted down, and Brogan Evans improved one score.

Lloyd Stonehouse grabbed both of the Wolves’ tries and Thomas Jones landed their conversion.
