Castleford Tigers exits set to continue as Albert Vete next to leave Super League club

CASTLEFORD TIGERS forward Albert Vete is set to be the next player out of the door at the Super League club.

Vete, who spent the remainder of the 2023 season on loan at Doncaster where he helped the South Yorkshire side earn promotion to the Championship, signed a two-year deal with Castleford but failed to impress during his first year at The Jungle.

The 30-year-old played just six games for the Tigers and is now expected to leave Castleford, League Express understands.

That will then pave the way for Castleford to sign Wests Tigers forward James Roumanos, who has been in talks with the West Yorkshire club for a number of months.

Castleford’s director of rugby Danny Wilson recently spoke on the Tiger Talk podcast about the Tigers’ business being “95 per cent done”, but, since then, Gareth Widdop has left the club.

Widdop isn’t the only person to exit The Jungle at the end of the 2023 season with Kenny Edwards, Niall Evalds, Elliot Wallis, Greg Eden and Nathan Massey just some of those to depart as Wilson and co. aim to rebuild a squad that visibly struggled this year.

The Tigers have signed the likes of Luke Hooley, Josh Hodson, Elie El-Zakhem and Rowan Milnes for 2024 – and they are not expected to stop there.
