Catalans Dragons name 23-man squad for 2015

Catalans Dragons have named a 23-man squad for their Super League campaign in 2015 – which head coach Laurent Frayssinous says will be extended ahead of the coming season.

Clubs must name a 25-man squad ahead of a Super League season, but for now, the Dragons boss has opted to go with a number two below that limit. Given how the club used over 30 players last year though, Frayssinous admits he will extend the squad prior to the new season – but for now, the club are going with 23 names on their squad list.

“We have been working since the beginning of our pre-season with this group of 23 players,” Frayssinous said. “They are working really hard and have been improving week by week.”

“Administratively, I know that I have to announce a 25 man squad, but I don’t want to upset the balance that we have managed to find. From experience, I know that this list has no value, for example, we used 32 players last year despite naming an initial 25 man squad. “

“We have got some great young players at the club, those playing with our reserve or U19 academy teams, and I know a lot of them can claim to play in Super League this season.”

“That is why this group of 23 will be extended but, as I said, I don’t want to disrupt now something that currently working for us as a team.”

New signings Todd Carney, Remi Casty and Willie Tonga are all included.
