Chris Chester insists Castleford Tigers players ‘sticking together’

DIRECTOR OF RUGBY Chris Chester believes Castleford Tigers’ players have the resilience to get through a turbulent period.

The Tigers are currently without a head coach after Ryan Carr’s departure was finally announced on Friday, after more than two weeks away from the club.

Former Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson and ex-Hull KR player and academy head coach Jason Netherton have joined the staff alongside Chester and existing coaches Scott Murrell and Rob Nickolay.

Castleford have won eight games out of 23 going into Saturday’s trip to St Helens and Chester said: “The fans have had it tougher than anybody.

“We set our stall out with what we wanted to achieve at the start of the season and we haven’t done that.

“Collectively we’ve not been good enough. There have been a lot of things that we could have done and should have done better.

“The good thing about this group of players is they stick together and they are resilient. The leadership group has been really good.

“The freshness of Luke Robinson and Jason Netherton has added a different dimension to the staff.

“We have felt the fans’ frustrations against Hull KR (they were booed throughout their previous home game two weeks ago). We understood the reception that everybody got.

“It wasn’t a nice atmosphere. In the 30 years I’ve been involved in the sport, I’ve not experienced an atmosphere like that, but there’s still a lot of positivity around.

“The fans will always support a team that shows effort.”
