Craven free to leave Widnes

Danny Craven has been told he can leave Widnes Vikings, Denis Betts has confirmed.

The utility back has been heavily linked with a move away from the club, with London Broncos and Halifax both previously interested in signing the 25-year-old.

Both of those deals are now thought to be off the table. However, Betts, who was speaking to League Express about recruitment, confirmed that Craven can still leave if an opportunity presents itself.

“He’s contracted to us,” said Betts.

“But he’s probably not going to feature. He has dropped down the pecking order at the club. There have been opportunities for him to move on, but it just hasn’t been right for him.

“I think he’s at that stage of his career now. It’s very hard to get in our team now. He’s training well and having a go, but it’s a big ask for him to get in our side and he needs to be out there playing every week.”

Widnes fans looking for the latest on the club should buy League Express right now, with the new edition featuring a major piece with Betts on recruitment, plus a full-page preview of the 2017 season. Buy in stores now or online at totalrl.com/shop
