DEWSBURY RAMS are keeping hold of Monty Lumb, with the up-and-coming hooker signing a permanent deal after impressing on loan from Huddersfield, whom he left earlier this month.
A product of Halifax community club King Cross Park’s junior system who has been coaching their under eight side this year, he joined Dewsbury on a season-long deal in May.
That was after Lumb made his Huddersfield debut from the bench in their 52-12 Challenge Cup fourth-round defeat at home to Hull KR in March after progressing through the Academy and playing for the Reserves.
The mid-season departure of Jack McShane from the Rams due to work and family commitments provided more opportunities for Lumb to start matches, with coach Paul March pleased by his contribution over a total of 13 games.
The scored four tries, two in the 30-16 defeat at Halifax then a double in the following 32-6 home win over Workington.
“Monty’s aggressive offensive capabilities, quick feet and being able to find an opening in opposition defences are going to be key for us in 2027,” said the club as they look to build on an eleventh-placed finish.
“I’m looking forward to getting going again,” added Lumb.
Dewsbury also have hooker Jacob Parkinson on board, while March is delighted the club have agreed a two-year contract extension with Brad Graham, the 25-year-old secondrow brought in from Halifax over the last close-season for a second Rams spell.
Originally a Castleford product who played three times at first-team level for the Tigers, he was with Dewsbury between 2022 and 2024 before spending last season at Halifax.
With 25 appearances and seven tries this year, Graham has taken his overall Rams figures to 85 snd 25.
“Brad could play at a higher level but chooses to stay with us,” said March.
“He is really consistent and can cover a number of positions, which makes him one of first names on the teamsheet.
“It’s great that we have him here for the next two seasons.”
