Doncaster hail arrival of Connor Jones and Cory Aston

DONCASTER coach Richard Horne has hailed the arrivals of Connor Jones and Cory Aston on two-year deals.

Hooker Jones has left financially-troubled Featherstone Rovers while Aston has moved from local rivals Sheffield Eagles.

The pair take Doncaster up to three signings for next season, following the addition of Castleford Tigers prop Muizz Mustapha.

Jones, 29, scored 87 tries in 159 appearances with Featherstone over six seasons.

Aston, 30, has spent the majority of his career with Sheffield over two spells, making 179 appearances – largely under his dad, former Eagles coach Mark Aston – and amassing 1,027 points.

Both have had brief Super League spells – Jones playing seven times for Salford Red Devils in 2020, and Aston making eight top-tier appearances in 2019 with Castleford.

Horne said: “We were never going to turn down the opportunity to bring in a player of Connor’s calibre.

“He’s another quality player to add to the group with plenty of experience of what it takes to be successful at this level.

“We’re really pleased to bring in such a top quality, experienced operator as Cory.

“This is a signing we wanted for a while and discussions with Cory were very easy. He wants to be here and he’s hungry to make an impact.

“As we look to progress, he’s exactly the sort of player we need. He’ll push us on and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Centre Brad Hey and pivot Connor Robinson has extended their contracts to 2027 and secondrow Luis Johnson to 2026.
