Doncaster strengthen further with front-row addition

DONCASTER have signed former Sheffield Eagles prop Titus Gwaze.

The Zimbabwe-born 26-year-old spent the last three seasons with the Dons’ South Yorkshire rivals after previously playing for Wakefield Trinity, London Broncos and Halifax Panthers.

He left Sheffield at the end of last season, and had been set to join Featherstone Rovers before their exclusion from the Championship.

The Dons have added to him to a front row already boosted by the signings of Muizz Mustapha from Castleford Tigers and Gadwin Springer from Featherstone.

“Titus fits the player type we want at the club,” explained coach Richard Horne, whose side visit Midlands Hurricanes on Sunday.

“He’s got a really good workrate and you could leave him out there for 80 minutes – he used to do it for Sheffield week in, week out.

“Hopefully we can give him a bit of rest as well with the other boys we’ve got, and it lets us have shorter stints with our big boys.

“Gadwin Springer and Pauli Pauli should have more impact as a result, then you’ve got Titus doing all the graft.”

Gwaze said he had other offers but explained: “I spoke to Richard and pretty much everything he said won me over compared to everybody else. It felt right coming here.”
