The opener between England and Australia attracted the best ever attendance for an Ashes game in the UK.
There were 60,812 at Wembley as the series returned after a 22-year hiatus.
That beat the previous record of 57,034, set at the old Wembley in 1994.
Australia ran out 26-6 winners, and the Ashes now continues to sold-out venues at Liverpool’s Hill Dickinson Stadium (November 1) and AMT Headingley in Leeds (November 8).
