SL USA/NRL America (Merged Threads)
frank replied to Gomersall's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Harry, Instead of moaning about the rule changes, just accept them, they are here to stay. Take your team for example, do you prefer some on the bench with head injuries or out on the field. These rule changes are for the players benefit. -
From what I hear it was 25,000. They really need an NRL team there.

If I had to choose between having padding or no padding if a big hit was put on me I know which choice I would be making.
-
If CH-CH were granted a licence to play, there would be a h-ll of a crowd for the first meeting with the NZ warriors.
-
If the NRL are prepared to expand outside of the eastern seaboard states, CH -CH is the most logical place to do that. A team there would be well supported and be a success. Another strong point is that it would keep more NZ talent in NZ.

Rugby League in NZ. A People's History.

The book cost $60 (30 pounds)here and classed a masterpiece by the local press. -
Is this book available in the UK? If it is it's an excellent read. It took the author (Ryan Bodman) ten years to write it. In the main it covers the trials the RL faced for over one hundred from the NZRU, like denying fields to play the game, banning the sport from schools, life ban on those thinking or playing RL. Covers lots of other news and how the game has become the most watched TV sport in NZ.

Jack Welsby new Saints contract confirmed
frank replied to Gerrumonside ref's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
I said in a previous post that I didn't rate Welsby, but, according to NRLand SL this guy has won everything. Welsby is playing in a league, where, unlike the NRL, outstanding players are hard to find. One could pick out many NRL players ahead of this guy. I hope Welsby makes it to the NRL and proves me wrong -
Merry Christmas to all at the Mount. Have a good day with your families.

From what I have seen of Welsby (must admit it's not a lot) I think he is far from a top5 player. There was talk of him going to Aussie, but, don't think he would make it there. -
From what I remember League was called Rugby and the other game was Union. Maybe it's a carry over.

Tackle height law change confirmed
frank replied to Leyther_Matt's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
With all this publicity in regard to head injuries, something has to change for the game to survive. Lots of parents won't let their youngsters play Rugby League today under the present set up due to head knocks and who can blame them. These new rules are set to make the game less dangerous. My elder brother who played for Batley, Yorks and Gt Britain suffered from Dimenentia most probably caused through the number of head knocks he received. Give the new rules a fair go Harry before knocking them. -

These rule changes will do a lot to reduce head injuries. -
Strong rumours NRL #18 team will be PNG
frank replied to Bamboozle's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
The NRL have no intension of moving outside the three eastern states so PN could be a good bet. -
When I was teenager( that wasn't yesterday) Batley always played in cherry and white hoops. When the likes of Wigan visited, who also had the same colours the home team changed, Batley reverted to blue and white. Courtesy thing.
