  1. 30 years myself come September. We must have good ‘uns !
  2. Possibly yes, but hope not. My wife ran the Leeds marathon a few weeks back and it was good to see the place looking so good (remaining terrace aside!)
  3. Ah! Just that I saw the said BB on the beach in Burgau not many years after his retirement as a player. Passed a beach ball back to him that got caught in the wind and he (a RU forward) made a comment about my passing ability! Not a highpoint !
  4. The actions of the last Central Park board, JR in particular nearly put the club out of business. At the point DW purchased the club it was effectively a distress purchase. No ground and only enough from Tesco to cover the debt. The way the move to DW then progressed inevitably lead to WRL being treated as cuckoos in the next and having “lodger” status until perhaps now. Like him or loathe him, DW saved both clubs. He was always a football man and didn’t hide that, hence the sale to IL in 2007. The article simply reflects that and is fair in hoping the antipathy is in the past.
  5. Have you actually ready what was said? It’s a pretty accurate and fair overview.
  6. Summed up here. Whatever the views of Dave Whelan, he had actually wanted to have both teams at Central Park, and Jack Robinson would have preferred the club to play in Bolton. I very much hope the animosity can now be set aside. Both teams need as much support as they can get. The decline of Wigan town centre started with the opening of the then JJB stadium and building of the facilitating out of town shopping. https://www.cockneylatic.co.uk/mike-danson-and-wigan-athletic-a-new-whelan-era/
  7. The fact he was the ball carrier is incidental. He went beyond what was necessary to challenge his opponent, and put him near headfirst into the ground. Bit of a brain explosion perhaps but he’ll know it was a fair kop. I wouldn’t take fozzards word on what is reasonable on the pitch as he always played at the edge of what many might think was fair. Perhaps he should have watched before commenting!?
  8. Think the players will need to remove the X’s from their foreheads as well to avoid confusion.
  9. The legacy is that there’s still people in Wales that like their rugby but aren’t getting much of it from the owners of the big stadium in the middle of town? New eyes? Some might say that the RFL moving events from there has coincided with a malaise?
  10. Have we given up on the Millennium Stadium?
  11. It does have value. Just not quite as much as some would like. Land Rover sponsor other sports for a reason. Part of the IMG gig is to expand the demographics. Not necessarily just more but different eyes.
  12. I reckon we need to increase SL awareness by sticking pictures of current players on big vehicles for free and driving up and down the motorway in them. That’ll drive up value.
  13. Reposting from “August’ thread. IMG have said they want to do things differently, new fans, new money etc. Just new. The trend appears to be with ‘events’ , such as the UFC circus, Premier League Darts and the like. I don’t think a stand alone 9’s comp would work. RL fans would see it as second to the real thing, but what about a SL Grand Prix. Perhaps even an indoor series of events. Leeds Arena, MEN Arena, O2 etc. Something really different. Each event different match ups ( 4 groups of 3) with a ‘final’ all adding up over the series for a trophy alongside SL and CC. Think that would be 5 hours of sport in one event to sell. 20 mins games x 3 games x 4 groups plus semis and final. Just a thought.

  15. Heard there’s a guy who likes drinking pop that’s in the market for a sports team.
  16. Not without buying from the liquidators they won’t, although I suspect with only one potential bidder, the price may well drop.
  17. Last I saw was 2 years ago but suspect that we would have heard by now if they were any where close with funding. They had been looking at a site next to Winstanley College for which presumably grant funding could be available. Not sure how a single pitch would service multiple teams, unless they got a 3G pitch.
  18. Didn’t realise it was still being used. I’m not too sure how much the Edge Hall land is worth, but I suspect it’s sale woukd generate a large chuck of what it would need to buy the DW?
  19. This article explains the position as it was/is. Although the stadium will have a value, it is much less than the cost of building it in the first place because of the restrictions on use and the fact that the actual freehold is owned by the council. I suspect this time around Wigan RLFC may well end up the actual owners if rumours about a sale to maintain the football club work through. https://www.wigantoday.net/sport/rugby-league/lease-ensures-wigan-athletic-and-wigan-warriors-carry-on-sharing-dw-stadium-2997623
  20. A look at who the petitioner for bankruptcy is may provide some information to answer a lot of the speculation. Bankruptcy is a means to take control of funds, it doesn’t necessarily mean the individual doesn’t have money at their disposal.
