  1. See my previous response. They are not extending the deadline, they are hoping to hit a second, higher target.
  2. Obviously they want more. My point was your "extend the deadline" phrase. The "deadline" is today, afaik, not £250K. You seem confused about 'target' and 'deadline'. They have reached their initial TARGET before the DEADLINE. They are now hoping to pass the initial target, not extend the deadline. Hey ho! Forget the great effort to raise funds, just use it as another stick to beat Salford with. Fill yer boots.
  3. Why would they "extend the deadline"? They have reached their initial target. What they have done is increase the target to £300K. Be interesting to see if they reach that figure.
  4. And, in case you've forgotten, Everton survived.
  5. That sounds similar to 2011(?), when United thought they'd won the PL until the 93rd minute and Aguerroooooo!
  6. Thanks. You're right about the dislike thing. What is "confident"? I'm still not convinced we'll win the league. Obviously, it's been a good season, but if our neighbours manage to win next week (despite all the hype, it is still a distinct possibility - Ten Hag has transformed them) and Inter spoil the party the week after, then the season will have been a failure of sorts. Expectations have been raised, rightly so, which is why I don't like talk of a "triple" until the "double" has been done and dusted. To answer your question honestly, I'm quietly confident of both the finals, but nervous as hell about both, too.
  7. Funny that that particular accusation is only ever levelled at City, though. Jealousy? Heaven forbid.
  8. I've given you a laughing emoji, Shadow, but I really think you should go on the naughty step for that one.
  9. Thank you for that reasoned analysis. I agree with your view that it is great that they are trying something, but there are doubts about its effectiveness in the future. From my pov, it keeps us going in the immediate future, but I do worry about the long-term future of SRLFC. We really need about 50% more fans, however the sporting monoculture of Gtr.Manchester makes this very difficult. (It's actually the reporting of sport rather than people playing sport that creates the monoculture)
  10. It takes 8 pints for you to talk siht? I've been reading posts on here for about 20 years and I reckon most of us can talk siht when stone cold sober.
  11. Thanks for that. I do like a happy ending.
  12. Another thing about gold is that it can be found just lying around on the ground, or 'native' as it is described, though less so now than in the past. Because of this easily-found nature and its resistance to tarnishing, it was perfect for ancient people. It could be found native, it did not require difficult extraction techniques, it was relatively easy to work with, it kept its shine forever and yet it was quite rare. Perfect! And pretty much unique among metals. It still is.
  13. Can they afford the "sweetener"?
  14. It is a complicated language when you delve into the fine detail. Spare a thought for my poor Greek students who are trying to learn English! It is City got past Bayern. In this case, it refers to the relative positions. You can't really use the verb form here. City passed a stern test provided by Bayern would work, but it is awkward. It can get even more complicated, City got passed by Liverpool, means Liverpool are now higher in the table than City. (It is in the passive voice and should be "have been passed", but uses an informal structure with "got") I use Liverpool in a purely hypothetical way, of course! Edit to add. It really isn't worth getting your (anyone's) knickers in a twist over it, which is why I didn't, and wouldn't, pull anyone up over it. I waited until you insisted you were right. I hope I haven't offended you.
  15. No, it isn't. We are past the point of no return. "Past" here is a preposition. We have passed the point of no return. "Passed" here is the past participle of the verb, "to pass". (Note, "passed" is also the past simple tense of the verb, "to pass", as in "I passed my test yesterday") HTH
  16. I love it, John. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face.
  17. He illustrated much of my youth and never failed to raise a smile.
  18. Always look on the bright side of life!
  19. If you know a guy called Vlad, you might be able to add nuclear strike to your list.
  20. No room for Dave Dee, Beaky, Mick and Titch? I shall hang my head in shame.
  21. It's snowing here. Well, actually a mix of snow, hail and rain. Nothing unusual in that, you might think, but I live in Crete. It is freezing cold outside. Good job we've got central heating!
  22. If I were nasty, I'd score in that open goal you've left.
  23. The shovel supplier is 42. The thing about a syllabus is that it must be relevant to the students' experiences, offer a tangible benefit to the students and be interesting. If you can do that, you can give the students some motivation. To my mind, we've lost the motivation factor. When I was at school, the prospect of a better-paid and more secure job was the motivation. That's gone. Teachers now have to be more inventive to provide their students with the incentive to study, ie motivation. Ah, I miss the good old days.* *I don't really!
  24. Is that your "5 years", or bearman's? As a teacher of many subjects, including Secondary School Maths, I do not mind people who claim to be unable to do Maths. It is skill, like any other skill. I can't play the guitar, for example. What really annoys me, though, is teachers who claim to be unable to do Maths. Anyone who cannot do Maths should not be allowed anywhere near a classroom, even a nursery classroom. It is a basic skill and, if you cannot help your pupils with Maths, you have no right to even train to be a teacher. The same goes for literacy skills. Rant over.
  25. Didn't he retire from club football about a year after going to Real Madrid?
