And you think there's any chance of a win away at London, Goole and Swinton? -
And none of us would take a new job in Paris just because it had a huge salary attached to it .....

After experiencing life in Japan, I mean who'd want a huge salary, the chance to live in Paris, maybe playing for the All Blacks, go on tours round the world, play in European finals and World Cups? Or he could go back and repeat his experience in NRL for a few more years.....

Would anyone describe yesterday's performance as that of a well-coached side? Lots of effort for sure, but it will need more than that. -

Substitution policy? To keep our two best forwards off the pitch for 50 and 60 minutes, Sam Day only coming on when the game was lost? And leave our other prop on the bench till well into the 2nd half And this when we were missing two starting props up against a much bigger pack. Our best forward on the day was Jack Briggs and again he spent too long on the bench. Only 1 sub in the 1st half and guess what, we concede a try right at the end of the half. A simple 6th tackle kicking game shouldn't be that difficult to organise but as soon as we get in the opposition 20, there's no moves, no leadership, no game management. Coates and Hookem just putting in unplanned short kicks which no one knew were coming so no chase. Sykes might be 43, but he's a better player than both. Unless he's injured, he should be playing. McShane at hooker tackled everything but also created little and gave away at least two of the penalties for ball stealing. Sam Day was far more creative in 20 minutes than McShane was in 60. Our 1st try came only from a Crusader player running so far out of the line, he created a huge gap. Our 2nd, a late consolation when the game was lost, Field having spent most of the match on the bench There was a gulf between the sides. Crusaders barely had to get out of 2nd gear. Had it not been for a few great try saving tackles from full back McShane, Crusaders would have posted 30+ points on a wet, muddy day And March has been at the Rams for a year now. -

We were in L1 the season before last. The "rugby" on show from Dewsbury today was amateur level stuff along with the coach not bringing on two of our best players till late in the 2nd half when the game was gone. -

Defence was pretty good but we gave ourselves a lot of practice. Thought Jack Briggs had an outstanding game. But Our attack is clueless. Outgunned in the forwards March leaves our best two forwards Ferguson and Day on the bench for 50 and 60 minutes. I can only guess that Everett, Garside and Sykes are all injured. We have no 6th tackle plays. It took 70 minutes to put in a contested attacking kick. Not sure who our captain is but we looked leaderless again. On this showing we will be lucky to win 5-6 games all season. -
IMG Grading System (Many Merged Threads)

Then it's not really a sport, it's just a business. The problem with businesses that are static, same clubs playing the same clubs every year and only a handful with any realistic possibility of ever winning anyway is that over time, SL will stagnate. It will become nearly impossible for any Championship team to score more points than a SL club. If all that matters is how many fans you might bring to an away game, then be honest about it. But that just sums up the small town mentality like forcing Catalans to pay travel costs because they're not on the M62, the lack of an international programme, the salary cap with multiple dispensations designed to maintain an unequal playing field, they very opposite of what it should do. And an IMG-based distribution of funding which just further increases the inequality. -

The changing face of Sports Investment
Wakefield Ram replied to Londonbornirishbred's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
To attract big money into a sport you need the best international stars and/or international competition. -
Wonder if it's a bad idea to draw the next round ahead of the round being played. Neither side wanted to win from a money point of view.

He signed a one season deal and the season ends in May. So got a good pay day and can return mid-season for the Roosters. Rugby is his job.

Barrow look for investment

Clubs finances are far too dependent on wealthy benefactors. Halifax, Featherstone, Whitehaven, Swinton all had well-publicised financial problems last season. And it's the same in SL. -

Possibly because it's highly likely the Aussies will have the series sewn up after 2 tests..? -

My thoughts exactly. Most companies would replace the CEO if things weren't working. Chairmen are usually part-time and there to provide some governance over the CEO.
