  1. It's the old drip drip method. Although frustrating there is reason behind it. Announcing this £25k first allows it get out there and allows the council to gain some credence, for a few days at least. It also allows us time to show the RFL that we ,as a town, are committed to 'community' rugby. So whatever announcements are due next won't bury the £25k in the background.
  2. Dennyroughyed, on the grading post , stated that he's heard that it's a move to BP. The announcement is 10 am on Wednesday. If I've not heard by 10 am and 30 seconds I will be most frustrated!!!
  3. I remember a while back, Ginny Alexander, when she was mayor,v saying that her objective was exactly as you outlined. So maybe she got the ball rolling.
  4. I hope they're not in trouble. As a Yeds fan we dream of being in Fevs position. Hopefully there's good news for us on Wednesday. Here's to future rivalry of proper RL teams
  5. I'm pretty certain it wasn't as straight forward as you make out. I think it could be argued that the council acted as an intermediary in the sale of watersheddings. Someone made quite a bit of money up there. Now whether it was just the builder I don't know. But I can't see the council forking out, if they did then it was repayed when the builder took over. The deal with latics was , if I recollect, on the proviso of stadium 2000 being built. So when you say you're not sure of what more they could have done, well there's that right there. The council voted it down. As for whitebank? It was untenable. I don't think the council lost out too much, if at all, as Avro bought it, or are renting it, from them.
  6. Then why would the council be making the announcement? I think it's probably some sort of partnership, council, latics and the rugby.
  7. Now, this is conjecture. But supposing, just supposing Oldham played in a stadium compatible with SL!? It's got the population, the local amateur infrastructure! Oh, did I mention the history? How important is Oldham to the development of the greatest game? Joseph Platt, son of Oldham, Father of Rugby League!? Oldham, the home, for the first 35 years. of Northern Rugby Football Union/ Rugby Football League!? The only thing missing, then, is performance. Winning games, promotion. If you think crowd attendance would be a problem, then No. Build it and they will come! #Sleeping giant!
  8. I'm certain that when we move to BP, we will be getting double that as a minimum. Especially if we can gain promotion this season then we will be entertaining the likes of Fev, fax, Widnes etc . So I would hazard a guess at 1,500 to 2,000.
  9. The only thing we've got going for us is the number of clubs in the area and population. We need to move to BP, that will solve the stadium criterion and then we need to perform on the field. Problem solved.
  10. Remember when our A team and colts got bigger crowds than we do now. In fact we got bigger crowds for the training sessions. Halcyon days.
  11. Well, defeat from the jaws of victory. On the bright side it was away, it took a sin binning for them to get back in. Oh and it wasn't the panning predicted by some.
  12. So taira played for Mayfield in the win against Cornwall, thought he was injured?
  13. 1990. Challenge cup semi final v Warrington. We were in the second division, however we were anything but a second division team. We had previously beat first division teams including ,in the previous round, Widnes. Widnes who had Jonathan Davis, martin offiah et al. To cut a long story short, ten minutes to go we were 4 points behind. Mike Ford chips the ball forward, winger Paul lord , arguably the fastest player on the pitch, picks up the ball to touch down, thus levelling the score. It only needed Duncan Platt to convert sending us to Wembley for the first time. We had won the cup three times pre Wembley. But wait , the referee disallowed the try, saying lordy was off side. Although the TV replay is inconclusive it does show that the referee was unsighted and unable to see lordy , as John cogger was in the way. The referee was later reported as saying he disallowed the try because he thought no one was that fast. It can be argued that had we gone to Wembley, on the same weekend Oldham athletic played notts forest in the league club, then maybe we wouldn't be in the dire situation we are now.
  14. RIP. Sad loss but I'll never ever forget or forgive that decision.
  15. Don't want to seem un knowledgeable but what's his name? Then we can give him recognition.
  16. My prediction for round one is, providing there are no draws, then the Roughyeds will be mid table. Hopefully their lowest position this season.
  17. Is that the one and only paddy Korean?
  18. Having had a second look at the game, I think it's because there is very little space behind the goal posts to have an in goal area. Therefore they've adapted it and had the tryline in front of the sticks.
  19. It was an artificial soccer pitch. With H posts, I assume, that can double up for rugby, soccer and American football.
  20. No, traditional H . The uprights are little shorter than you'd normally have. There was even padding around the bottom. It was as if the pitch was too long, or they'd decided to bring the try line forward. So the in goal area started 5 metres in front of the sticks.
  21. That's all well and good. However , a number of points, it seems there's an inconsistency in the competition. And secondly you've not answered the query. Oh and as for kicks rebounding off the posts and crossbar, in my 55 years experience, quite often. Usually when it is at a critical score and the points matter. I do, also, accept that the US is in the development stage but from what I've seen, so far, is the competition, that includes Jacksonville, is on a par, if not better, than the amateur game in the UK.
  22. Just watched Jacksonville v Tampa on YouTube. First time I've seen an RL match in the US, so I apologise if this has been covered previously. I noticed the sticks appear to be about 5 metres behind the try line. Could be many reasons, pitch dimensions etc. But, what happens when a penalty is taken? The ball bouncing off the posts, how can it still be in play? Is the penalty kick moved 5 metres forward to compensate. What happens if the ball doesn't go out of play? Seems an odd state of affairs!
  23. No, wait till the season starts proper, then we can discuss what's happening.
  24. Well your gut was right for a fifty minute game. But I think it needs some pro-biotics to get it lasting the full eighty.
  25. On how the development and use of the Melrose playing fields is going?
