  1. Dewsbury had an Aussie player called Trent Jordan in the 1990s - nicknamed Two Rivers.
  2. You really have to wonder how rugby league can be considered a professional sport these days. To many clubs it seems professionalism is just paying players and having a silly nickname. As well my RL team, I also follow a team in the 10th-tier of the football pyramid and I can safely say the latter is a far more professional and ambitious organisation than many clubs in the second and third tier of rugby league, my own included.
  3. So, a decent showing on Boxing Day followed by a couple of friendly paggerings, after an entire season of disappointment and underachievement. Didn't go today but heard Ferguson got injured. Not the ideal preparation for a season in League One. Really need to hit the ground running against North Wales and quickly develop a winning mentality, whatever that is.
  4. There was a horse called Eddie Rombo in the late 1990s. https://www.racingpost.com/profile/horse/467985/eddie-rombo/form Not as fast as Dewsbury's former Kenyan winger of the same name though.
  5. Dewsbury 18 Bradford 34 Att. 1,104 Flair-ometer: 4/10
  6. Disappointingly, it seems like Midlands will be playing on the smaller ground with the running track and no noticeable stands of any kind. Still planning to go though. On the subject of grounds, I see ours has been renamed the Flair Stadium. Judging by the age of our fan base it might as well be the Flares Stadium. Does that mean we can have some non-Tetleys beer in our bars now?
  7. I was looking forward to a trip to Llanelli. Bad news for the sport and our club, just nine home league matches this season. Looks like we will have four weeks without a match, from April 16 to May 14. It's ridiculous really and a sad state of affairs for a so-called professional sport. Agreed, we need to get out of this division but it seems unlikely that League One will be viable with so few clubs next season and it may well end up being merged with the Championship anyway, particularly if more clubs go the same way as West Wales.
  8. It's only 12 days away. Long time since the last Boxing Day derby and unless the weather improves it might not be on. I'm going for: Batley 32 Us 22 2,401 Paul Sykes red card 65 minutes
  9. I was disappointed the club didn't do anything to mark the World Cup. It would have been nice if there was an event for fans in one of the bars to watch one of the England games or final. Or even a ScotIand match in support of Dale Ferguson, Davey Dixon and club legend Nathan Graham. I noticed Barrow, a club very much on the rise, were pushing such events on social media. It just seemed like the club didn't even aware there was a World Cup on, as illustrated by the fact we originally announced the fans forum at the exact same time Australia v Lebanon kicked off down the road in Huddersfield! Sometimes it feels like we're not even bothered about rugby league.
  10. The Cornish and Welsh tourist boards can look forward to some income from me with those dates. And I'm sure that of a few other Dewsbury fans. Donny away in the last match of the season could be tasty, and it would be nice to think we can get a good crowd for Hunslet at home on Good Friday. I think we should all try and make an effort to bring other folk to that one and work with the club to try and open the South Stand for what will be the nearest we get to a 'derby'.
  11. Just bought 3 for the final, the £45 tickets appear to be back on sale now.
  12. How come the Upfront editorial column isn't in League Express any more? Always liked that
  13. I loved the Four Nations, it was much more intense than the World Cup (which I love too) and dished up some brilliant games. Was lucky enough to attend the 2014 event in Australia and New Zealand when Ryan Hall's fingertip was the difference in us beating Australia and making the final. Ditching it made no sense, but few decisions in rugby league ever do.
  14. First time watching this, it's brilliant - and we're paggering Australia.
  15. Anyone know when Championship and League One fixtures are out?
  16. The band at Doncaster last night were great. However the almost constant music played over the PA and stupid sounds and screeching announcer detracted from the action on the field. I hope they limit it for the next two games at Doncaster, or at least turn the volume down a bit. Took along a friend who is new to the game and he rightly said it trivialised what was going on on the field.
  17. Some great players though - loved watching Dicko, Dennis, Gary C, Dean Hall, Neil Kelly, Chris Vasey, Glen Coughlan, and the lads who came up through the A team. Yet we lost to Runcorn and Chorley at the end of that season and only just scraped a draw with Barrow in the last game on what felt like the 9th tackle. Be interested to know exactly what happened with the committee after the ground was sold.
  18. I'd say 1990-91, last season at Crown Flatt when Duncan Developments were supposedly going to build us a new ground. There's a team photo in those shirts knocking around.
  19. As a Dewsbury fan I never thought I would say this, but well done to you all at Batley today. Coach, players, chairman and fans, I salute you all for making a very skewed competition interesting this year, and you are a credit to yourselves and our great sport, and to me you were the real winners today.
  20. Hadn't considered that and was just giving a fan's point of view. Doesn't bode well though in terms of filling stadiums. Hope I'm wrong.
  21. Have bought about 20 tickets for the tournament so far, all for the group stages including the opener at Newcastle. Happy with what I've got but think I'm going to stop there because the prices for so many of the games are just too high. I love rugby league more than any other sport in the world but I think the organisers have misjudged the audience so much. £55 for England v France at Bolton? And try explaining £25 for a cheap England v Greece ticket at Bramall Lane to the casual fan? I wish we were on the level of professionalism of football or rugby union off the field but, sadly, we just aren't and there are hundreds of complicated reasons as to why that is. I think now is the time for a climbdown and to lower the prices drastically before we make fools of ourselves and, worse still, the players who will produce the goods on the pitch. All these games are, rightly, free on TV. A month still to go. Let's pack the stadiums.
