  1. £15,000 grant for girls' rugby https://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news-features/139/main-news/155800/oldham-community-trust-secures-£15000-grant-for-girls-rugby-league
  2. My Dad used to take my older sister to Watersheddings during the Ganley era and she was a big fan of John. When she and her family moved to Fleetwood several years ago she got to know John and his wife quite well and has often commented on what a lovely, friendly man he was. Very sad news.
  3. Maybe that's because however dissatisfied they were, Roughyeds supporters never stooped so low.
  4. I agree. Well said Clifford.
  5. So you're suggesting that the new owners should have stuck with last season's squad with a minimal amount of tweaking? No-one can argue with your point that doing so would have saved them a shed load of money but how would that have helped the push for promotion? As Henry Ford said, if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got. Massive changes were necessary to prevent the club being stuck in League 1 and eventually disappearing into oblivion, and the new administration should be congratulated for all improvements they've made and continue to make both on and off the field but unfortunately you can't please all of the people all of the time and you can't please some of the people any of the time.
  6. Too late unfortunately if the new coach is already signed up
  7. Indeed. Half of a female couple would never make such a comment about their partner
  8. I think that's a not a bad call but I'm not sure many others would agree. I seem to recall that when he was coach, many supporters complained that the style of play was too predictable. My guess is that a coach has already been appointed but can't be revealed until after the playoffs when the season is properly done and dusted.
  9. A bit of a nail biter but well done on another win in the bag and commiserations to Hornets.
  10. I remember there being a discussion about a name change on here a while ago but there seems to be a lot more enthusiasm for it this time round. As an onlooker rather than a paying supporter I accept that my opinion doesn't count but for what it's worth I agree with those who think Bears (or other animals) are outdated, and I also think it's better to move forwards than back. Of the names suggested so far, Vulcans would be my preference. But as TimG suggested, maybe the younger generation could come up with something better so maybe ask your children and grandchildren. They may come up with something more fitting for the 21st century.
  11. It's a team from West Yorkshire, I can't remember exactly which town they're from but they're known as the Goats. Or is it the Sheep? Sorry I can't be more helpful but I hope your friend finds out so they can be there to cheer the Roughyeds on.
  12. There's an application form on the club website https://roughyeds.co.uk/club-cash
  13. 1970 - Maybe Oldham didn't get the memo about it moving to Saturday and they were there on Monday wondering why you guys hadn't turned up
  14. Or maybe it's to avoid a clash with the Latics/Altrincham match at BP, just like it says on the website https://roughyeds.co.uk/2023/03/rochdale-game-switched-to-7.30pm-kick-off/
  15. Beating the alleged worst two teams in the league is a whole lot better than losing to them. Two wins out of two can only be a positive start to the season so well done Yeds, keep up the good work
  16. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I thought this Roger Halstead musing on the Roughyeds website was well worth a read. https://roughyeds.co.uk/2023/03/chris-sells-up-after-running-roughyeds-for-more-than-25-years/
  17. Everything I've read suggests that the Rothwell family are very keen for Boundary Park to become an inclusive community stadium for the whole town which already points to the right spirit of things so I doubt there's any need to worry.
  18. Magnificent news indeed, and a relief that all the recent speculation hasn't ended in disappointment for the supporters. Exciting times ahead. A big thank you to Chris for keeping the Club alive for the past quarter century and the best of luck to him for the future.
  19. Really?!! I'm sure I read a post on here just a few days ago that this would never happen
  20. I hope all the speculation is in the right ballpark or there'll be a lot of sad faces on here by Friday afternoon
  21. Fingers crossed that this the start of an exciting new era for the Club. There seems to be more enthusiasm behind the scenes than there has been for a while with recruitment underway for a new women's team and the revival of Roary's Pride. The collaboration between Latics, Roughyeds and the Council, along with BP becoming a community facility should raise the profile of the Club and maybe, just maybe it will attract new supporters and encourage the return of lapsed supporters. And if the win over Skolars has set the stage for the rest of the season maybe even the whingers will have something positive to say by the end of the year.
  22. That would be a step in the right direction.
  23. At the risk of getting banned from the forum, I have to agree with the Hornet on this one . I still have cards to post and our decorations are still in the loft But nonetheless, I wish all at ORLFC, supporters and everyone on the forum (even the Hornet) a merry Christmas and a very happy and successful New Year.
  24. Oxford Dictionary: Whinge - complain persistently and in a peevish or irritating way It's perfectly acceptable for supporters to give constructive critisism when it's deserved and they're certainly not peevish. But there's no denying there those who are definitely not supporters but always turn up to gloat when things aren't going well and are conspicuous by their absence after a win. I'm sure they are the ones that Herbie was taking a swipe at and rightly so. There is nothing constructive about critisising just for their own warped amusement.
