  1. That could be a logical way forward which to be honest I wouldn't be against. But that's easy for me to say supporting a Thunder team that's been relegated already. There won't be a perfect way forward but this is about damage limitation especially to the nine clubs left in League One. There's a much bigger picture to this than nine League One teams.
  2. It'd be very narrow minded of SL if true. I'm a keen expansionist and to lose any team is a blow as we need the game played everywhere and not just in the traditional areas. It boosts profile and benefits everyone.
  3. Obviously really disappointing news but at least Skolars aren't being completely lost. There does need to be something done about balancing leagues though. This season on my Thunder ticket I get 13 home games and now next season it's currently 8. Either have one league below Super League or restructure. Obviously if a restructure was to take place there would be at least one very unhappy club but the imbalance needs addressing.
  4. Well given we've had relegation confirmed at Newcastle Thunder tonight, as I've said before I'm hoping Skolars can pull through and we can have a ten team league next season.
  5. Curtis Davies has been captain since Alex Foster left for Castleford.
  6. From my point of view as a Thunder season ticket holder. Yes playing numbers at a community level have dropped off, this is about the same as the average across the country. But with fewer numbers to start with will always look worse. Can that be re-built? Yes it can but that takes time and the club is aware of this. Can't say too much about off the pitch, owners etc but we have to be more realistic and honest on what we can afford to do and that doesn't involve winning Super League by 2030. As relegation looks likely we have to take our medicine and regroup. The players under Chris Thorman are fighting and look like they care From my point of view as a fan, albeit a relatively new one, there's so much potential here and yes football is king. But St James Park sells out every week, there's an opportunity for parents to bring their kids to live sport at a reasonable price, so yes it's a challenge but not unrealistic. In terms of people around the club, we have a small group of people day to day who care about the club and we're in good hands there. What we're starting to see is a better link between the University game and Thunder which could bring players through, but these players need time. If anyone knows anyone visiting or coming to live in Newcastle get in touch with Thunder and come down to Kingston Park and get involved.
  7. Given it looks like it's League One next season I think it's a hugely important off season coming up for everyone including us fans. Firstly I think the team have generally turned up and put a shift in but know there will be leavers, Young and Tuliatu confirmed already. I think Chris Thorman is the person to take things forward into next season. League One itself will be tough, don't think there will be a massive difference between the top few clubs in League One and the bottom of The Championship. Plus you have extra travel to Cornwall. The foundation have as ever done a lot of great work with the LDRL team and the start of the women's team which looks to hopefully grow next season.
  8. The idea of a north and south League One is a good one but it needs teams. This would involve having a strategy to grow the game but say if the start of your south is Cornwall, London, Midlands you're then looking at growing the game in say South Wales, Gloucester All Golds, Worcester (there's a stadium there and with the mess Warriors are in there's an opportunity for someone) and then some other places. North wise you have Edinburgh, could a Glasgow based team work? I like the idea of an Irish based side or two but that'd be for another topic! But realistically can't see any of that happening but if it was to be a nine team league it'd be very disappointing.
  9. Firstly hope Skolars can pull through whatever is going on there. A nine team competition isn't a solution. Don't think relegating three from The Championship would be favourable but would balance numbers. The only new team I've heard show an interest but they're still a while off are Edinburgh. I may have missed others who might be looking at League One as an option.
  10. I'm all for anything that helps the game. I'd be up for some form of England supporters club. At a community level do clubs get much from the RFL on offers or incentives for tickets sold with a percentage going back to the club on major events. If not that kind of commission is something I'd look at. The big thing for me is getting the none rugby league or casual fan on board for internationals, magic, challenge cup final and grand final. I can say this about up here in Newcastle, we never see anything advertised till the last week. They should be approaching big employers and the universities with group ticket offers well in advance.
  11. Same day as the Premiership rugby final at Twickenham, shame I wouldn't be able to do both!
  12. Real shame as he has looked committed and works hard. Would like to think he can pick up something in The Championship.
  13. I'm a Thunder season ticket holder but these are just my own view on things. Nationally in almost all sports, especially team sports there's been a decline in player numbers post-Covid as people have found other things to do. Then you take the fact that rugby league is a minority sport up here with less player numbers pre-Covid. So any drop off in players in line with a national average is going to be felt more. As for a solution, well everyone can play their part not just here in the north east but around the UK. Everyone knows the benefit of team sports and also what rugby league has given them. If you have relatives or family friends coming up to Newcastle for University, tell them to get in touch with a north east club directly or even Thunder directly. Playing, coaching, volunteering, supporting any support for rugby league is welcome. People coming up here who know rugby league even as supporters can make a huge difference.
  14. What a game that was. We have a group of players here who are fighting for the shirt. We know a lot of people have written us off but we are still in the fight and teams will be looking over their shoulder.
  15. So basically any young up and coming players who want a shot at The NRL should be looking to come on up to Newcastle aka the NRL departure lounge!
  16. It's never good to see any club in trouble and hopefully Whitehaven pull through. Has there been some financial miss-management? Possibly. But as has been said given the players produced through Cumbria the game needs Cumbria and other areas. For me, in order to make the game overall is this where IMG come in? Working with club's on their weaknesses to improve them and in turn improving rugby league, but club's should also stick to what they can afford to do.
  17. We're always interested, won't be at this one but some will be down. Fully expecting you guys to be fired up after last week against Batley. As for us we saw a committed display against Whitehaven last week and I hope we can back that performance up. As our league position shows we have really struggled for any type of consistency.
  18. Maybe the Andorran All Stars could play England in a mid-season friendly?!
  19. There was the north east junior finals on before the match cup and plate for under 14s and 16s, a few looked to have stayed after that. Plus a strong travelling support from Whitehaven. Thunder are generally good at having something on before the match.
  20. If that is the case and I have no reason to doubt you, I hope you can get yourselves sorted. Your fans were a credit to Whitehaven today.
  21. I know most people have us down but really good win for Thunder this afternoon. We did our best to try and lose it but pleased for everyone to get a win!
  22. Disappointing you haven't given us at Thunder a chance here. Merge with York to create The NewYork Thunder Knights. Up the Thunder Knights!
  23. Denis Betts to come in short-term initially?
