  1. I think the league positions are worked out on percentage of played games won. To accommodate fixtures that cannot be fulfilled.
  2. Reflecting on the game, we gave them three long range scores from our poor last tackle plays. We still managed to finish within four points of them, that was a winnable game. I'm afraid we are distinctly lacking throughout the backs. I would exempt Roberts and Hewitt from that statement on todays performance, but the rest do not seem up to championship standard.
  3. What a difference a week makes. Whitehaven looked out on their backsides just before they scored in the first half. I predicted then we would run away with it in the second half. How wrong can you be.
  4. I thought todays game would be a good indicator of where we will be competing in the league. Batley are a nailed on mid table team. Today told us we will be battling at the bottom again. As for the game we cannot afford to give any that many penalties and repeat sets. Our execution with ball in hand mostly was sloppy.
  5. Thought we looked the best team in the first half, but their half backs made the difference in the game as a whole. They found a weakness down our left channel, and we coughed up possession too easily. We have a real asset in Tyler Dupree, with him and our back row we have some real go forward.
  6. I usually come home from games frustrated with how we have played, or about referee decisions. But watching on OurLeague I have a new gripe. We can forgive commentators getting names wrong occasionally, but this was far too often in this production. Now lets get on to the on screen scoreboard, the only time it was correct was at nil-nil. That being said i enjoyed the game.
  7. For Tessa with affection April 76. EP by The Recreation. https://open.spotify.com/album/2LzvJwEvnQN5NsCyvOp8w8?si=Vf8SJmCZQ_6RuDZB6t_q7g
  8. I think the new kit looks fantastic.
  9. Result. Something that should have never happened.
  10. The come back and win against Hull KR at Old Trafford and the semi final play off win against Hornets at Scotland, which earned us the chance to play Widnes in the final.
  11. With his wife Ginny being the mayor, he is also high profile in the town. I wish him all the best in what he does.
  12. Remember the announcement when Glen Liddiard scored that first try. "Try scored by A.N.Other, well done young Liddiard".
  13. Good workmanlike performance. But we had the game in the bag and should have gone on to win by a larger margin, but went in to self destruct mode. You cannot afford to give away penalties on their last tackle. Saying that I think the penalty try was an harsh decision, I thought their No 23 still had a chance of getting to him. Thought the ref was OK and did not take any messing from either team.
  14. As long as we get the effort we got against Widnes, I will be happy.
  15. Another positive today was the new bar at the ground. Just what was needed.
  16. Thought pretty similar to LR, but thought the sin binning was very harsh and 12 points were scored while we were down to 12. Was very impressed with Widnes No 6 Danny Craven. Thought he ripped us apart every time he had the ball.
  17. Is it just me that was bewildered by the decision to sin bin Gaz Owen? I honestly thought their player on the ground was not tackled, and therefore there to hit. Tomkins coming in and reacting was what caused the meli.
  18. Thought we still struggled to break them down. Most of the points came in the last ten minutes, when the young Saints side were mentally fatigued. Still glad to see a win, but I am concerned about the weeks ahead.

  20. RIP Hughie. Not only did he not swear, he did not drink. Saw him in Monty's many times nursing a pint of fresh orange juice.
  21. Probably because the player pathway is for SL clubs to recruit players at the under 14 age group. They take the biggest of the best and the rest lose interest from there on, so the players that do get to the likes of Oldham are usually the ones that were taken on by the SL clubs at 14 who did not make the cut at the age of 21.
  22. I think player development would be better run by the community clubs. Players are recruited to SL Academies at the under 14 age group, and the scouting system seems to favour the players that have matured early. Many a good player that has not grown as quickly as others are firstly overlooked and then lose interest. If the development was left with the community club, the players could be retained in the game longer, and more players likely to make it as they would be judged later, entirely on ability and not size and strength. The pro clubs should not be allowed to approach them unless
  23. Super League scouts target players at the under 14 age group. After this there seems to be a big drop off in players wishing to continue to play the game. In my view most of the players are selected are good big ones, they are not interested in the ones who have not at that age developed physically, no matter what talent they have. there may be some milage in the club setting up a development camp for all u14, 15 and 16s for all players not selected for a SL scholarship. At worst this would keep players in the game longer and you never know, you might get one or two make it through to the pro-
