Scotland name World Cup squad

Recommended Posts

Scotland coach Steve McCormack has finalised his squad for the Rugby League World Cup 2013. It includes six uncapped players, four from Australia’s NRL competition - Brisbane Broncos star Peter Wallace, Gold Coast prop Luke Douglas, North Queensland centre Kane Linnett and Gold Coast’s Irvine-born full-back Matt Russell – plus two Super League regulars in Bradford utility Danny Addy and Widnes prop Ben Kavanagh.

Out of interest, were any of that squad born in Scotland? I know it's not the be all and end all, but I still don't like a team assembled entirely of heritage players. I can't see it doing wonders for the game long term (as others have noted re Italy) compares to Wales, although I would dearly love more scots to play at a high level.

But playing Scottish born players who clearly arnt good enough at this stage will do more damage then playing heritage players and been competitive. Something needs to be done though to allow Scotland to try and start to develop there own but we need a international system that keeps brough, Henderson ect ect to stick with the scots and play in and against the best nations.

David Scott and Matty Russell are the only ones I believe.
