Just found a clip from the British Film Institute of Oldham vs Swinton in 1901 played at Watersheddings - what I did not realise was that at that time before the break away from  Union, after each tackle there was a scrum, replaced by play the ball in League ( very sensible) and later by the ruck/maul in Union (not so sensible). It interesting to see the footage and how the ball was thrown into the scrum from a few feet away. The link below...

love the idea of the ball being fed into the scrum this way , bring back some unpredictability.......bring back watersheddings as well  i say , used to love my trips from workington there , was there 2 weeks running in the 90 s , once against i think oldham st annes in the cup , then oldham in the league the week after , half our team were from oldham then !
