CFL clubs start Rugby teams (Graphic Concept)

Wouldn't it be great if CFL teams could see the potential of RL and start teams. I know, the stuff of fantasy but lets have fun with the concept. The Toronto Argonauts Rugby Club was founded in 1873 and played continuously ever since. It would be great if they could go back to their roots.

Many CFL teams have underutilized stadium, so if the interest was there, I believe they should look into it. The recognized historic branding of the teams would really help to promote rugby.

Below are some mock ups of potential kits in the teams' traditional colors. Very cool, done by some chap with the handle "kiwi_canadian" here.

It would be better still to see the CFL switch lock, stock and barrel to the improved version of the uniquely Canadian brand of football which was played here when the Grey Cup was inaugurated so that there could be a legitimate winner of that trophy for the first time since their game started moving away from its Canadian roots by importing the snapback system of restarting play in place their early form of play-the-ball.  I can't ever see the league which went cap in hand to the NFL for a handout to keep them afloat just over 20 years doing that though.

CFL went in the wrong direction by following the Americans.  Unlimited substitutions, getting rid of the one-platoon system, the snapback to start play etc.

Now the CFL squads are too big, with a large turn over of players. It's difficult to know many of the players under these conditions. They are also treated as disposable by the league.

Also, there is also the ticking time bomb of CTE.  The NFL has already made a billion dollar settlement. CFL can't afford that, it would bankrupt the league.

They certainly did, though they didn't know it at the time.

Their cost base is definitely too high for an all-Canadian league, and it's the reason why they only have nine clubs.  There isn't anywhere else in Canada where another CFL club would be viable, and they can't really afford to split the league's TV and sponsorship revenues more ways than they do now.  If they had smaller rosters and fewer coaches that would all change.

The horrific brain damage suffered by gridiron players during their career documented in League of Denial could in time lead to that game's demise.  Though it can't legitimately be called football, brain damage ball is a very appropriate name for it.
