Golden boot nominations now??

No expert on this, but they've announced nearly 20 names as shortlisted for RL Golden Boot. Seems this is for the calendar year rather than attached to the tournament, but  seems odd to do it in the day before the RLWC semi-finals, when Eng and Aus who appear to represent a sizeable chunk of the list have not yet faced any really testing opposition. And they will announce the winner on Tuesday, before the final ...? Am I missing some logic here?

This is consistent with previous years where there’s a major tournament as they’ve got all the players together to present the award. Won’t be after the final as they’ll all be back home

Golden boot always throws up some interesting debate. 
without having seen the list I’d assume Joey Manu would be a good shout.
