Oldham chief Mike Ford calls for less self-interest from rugby league clubs as he stresses need for Super League held in future structure talks

Problem is Mike is talking common sense again, something that doesn’t seem to apply to many clubs!

He is correct though, clubs need to support clubs such as Newcastle. Excluding Cornwall from the 1895 cup is total madness!  Why didn’t the RFL help London Skolars?  I know clubs should manage themselves better, but these clubs are called our expansion clubs and should be supported accordingly.

Established clubs should be looking for better income streams rather than bleeding the Sky money. There are too many second rate overseas players on high salaries. We should be actively developing our own players through academies which every club should run. Not a select few. How mad was it stopping Leigh having one last season?

As a condition of getting the Sky payment every club should have to employ two development officers. One for their own town/ city and one for another area supporting the game in general.

Isn't that what the IMG grading system is supposedly designed for, to force clubs to manage themselves better?

Particularly those who choose to refuse to travel to certain other clubs…you cannot have all the IMG hoopla at the same time as championship clubs refuse to travel to cornwall…..if you want credibility.

All league one clubs travelled to Cornwall last season…I dont recall any clubs showing resistance. Mayfield travelled to Cornwall for the early round challenge cup tie. Where is the leadership in our game. Refuse to travel then exclude them from the competition….and the prospect of a wembley final.
