The club have confirmed this weekend that we'll travel to Mount Pleasant on Saturday 18 January 2025 to face Championship side Batley Bulldogs.

With the Challenge Cup Second Round the week after (25/26 January), the 1895 Cup Preliminary Round the week after that (1/2 February) and a potential Challenge Cup Third Round game a week later if we win (8/9 February), I suspect this might be our only friendly before the League campaign kicks off against Goole.

What are people's thoughts? Friendlies are always tough to take much from but I'd be interested to see how we fare against a good Championship team.

Batley will be a good test. If we want Championship rugby we need to start looking at where we are in relation to that standard of rugby league. They are pretty good though so it's not like we're playing one of the yo-yo clubs. Will enjoy the day out whatever I'm sure.

One of the main dilemmas for the players will be should they use studs or crampons and perhaps oxygen at the top of the mountain..

That said, whist the hill is comparable to Underbank it doesn't have stone walls on the touchline and a huge dip in the centre.
