Francis Cummins releases statement on Garreth Carvell loss

Bradford Bulls coach Francis Cummins has released a statement outlining his thoughts on the loss of veteran prop Garreth Carvell, who controversially rejoined Hull FC this week despite being under contract with the Odsal club.

Here’s the statement in full:

“We have lost a good player and a good Prop so we need to add to the squad again. We knew we had to add to the squad because we are low on numbers and it’s a long old season. We have other people in there that will be looking to step up and we’ve seen that already.

“Sometimes when a player leaves then others make the move upwards. We lost some players at the end of last season and we have seen in pre season that some players have almost ‘grown up’ just because they aren’t there anymore and that will continue.

“I expect a little bit more from the players that are here and we will be looking to bring someone in. It won’t happen overnight but we don’t need a prop for this weekend. I have managed to bring Danny Bridge in on loan from Warrington for a month and he can play there or in the back row, so we are looking and monitoring the situation.

“Fortunately we haven’t had any more players looking to get away and Luke Gale and Adam Sidlow showed great loyalty to the club by extending their deals this week. Those are the kind of players we want at the club.”
