Fuifui Moimoi could have joined Swinton

Swinton Lions made an audacious attempt to sign iconic forward Fuifui Moimoi.

The 37-year-old’s move to Toronto Wolfpack was confirmed last week after weeks of speculation, however, it has emerged that the Championship club attempted to land the New Zealand international before his move to the Canadian club was complete.

Moimoi spent the last two years in the Championship with Leigh Centurions before leaving the club at the end of the season.

Swinton, who are preparing for their second season back in the second-tier, have made a number of impressive signings so far ahead of 2017, including that of Moimoi’s former Leigh teammate Matt Sarsfield, who joins the club from Salford, and St Helens’ Oliver Davies.

However, they couldn’t quite get a deal for Moimoi over the line, although their fans are likely to be delighted that they are attempting to sign players of Moimoi’s calibre.
