Gardner: Pick Hodgson for England

On-loan Hull KR winger Ade Gardner believes temporary team-mate Josh Hodgson should be rewarded for his superb form with an England call-up.

The St Helens flyer, 30, has been mightily impressed with 24-year-old Hodgson, who has arguably been the Robins’ best player in 2014, scoring five tries and making seven assists, a whopping 464 tackles, and over 1,400 metres. He’s one of several top class English hookers in Super League and Gardner thinks it’s time Steve McNamara took note.

“I can’t speak highly enough about Josh,” Gardner told the Hull Daily Mail.

“Given an opportunity to play internationally, I’m sure he’d thrive on that and relish being in that environment.

“If anyone epitomises Hull KR, it’s him because he wears his heart on his sleeve.

“To play 80 minutes down the middle is formidable. Kieron (Cunningham) was a one-off and a bit of a freak.”
