Goole Vikings add former Featherstone Rovers hooker

GOOLE VIKINGS have signed Will Jubb following Featherstone Rovers’ removal from the Championship.

The hooker brings significant second-tier experience having played 150 times in the competition, chiefly across eight seasons with York Knights.

Jubb spent last season with Featherstone, scoring five tries in 30 appearances and featuring at Wembley in their 1895 Cup final defeat to his former club.

Rovers were denied a place in the Championship on the eve of the new campaign by the RFL after falling into administration, with a prospective ownership group failing to secure the governing body’s approval.

As a result Jubb, 29, has headed for Goole, who are playing only their second professional season after coming seventh in League One last year.

“Will is a fantastic addition for us,” hailed Vikings head coach Scott Taylor.

“We actually made him one of our primary targets last year, so to finally get this one over the line is really pleasing.

“Will is a proven player at this level – he’s all class. He’s a competitor, plays tough and has great distribution.

“He’s the sort of player you want to line up with and someone who makes other players better.”

Jubb said: “It’s a really exciting opportunity to come and play for an up-and-coming club and be part of an exciting project – it’s really impressive.

“I’m fully committed to playing my part in helping the club continue to grow and give the fans what they deserve.”

After losing 32-18 at Keighley Cougars in their first Championship game, Goole face Mirfield Spartans in the Challenge Cup second round this Sunday.

Although Taylor’s side were drawn as the away team, the clubs have agreed to stage the fixture at Goole’s Victoria Pleasure Grounds.
