Headingley to host Championship Finals

The 2014 Kingstone Press Championships Finals Day will be staged at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds, on Sunday October 5.

There will be three title deciding matches – the Kingstone Press Championship Grand Final, the Kingstone Press Championship One Grand Final, the winners of which will be promoted to the Championship, and the National Conference Challenge Trophy Final.

It will be the second time the Championships Finals Day has been held at the historic venue. After staging last year’s Finals Day at Leigh Sports Village, the Championships clubs recently expressed their preference for a neutral venue in 2014.

RFL Chief Operating Officer Ralph Rimmer said: “The Kingstone Press Championships Finals Day always provides a spectacular and memorable end to the season and this year we believe it will be the most exciting ever.

“Headingley Carnegie Stadium has a rich history of hosting high quality sporting events and will be the perfect venue to showcase some extraordinary action to a bumper crowd in what is now set to be a pivotal year for the sport.”

Gordon Johncox, managing director of Championship title sponsors Kingstone Press, said: “At Kingstone Press we are really looking forward to Championships Finals Day and will be planning some exciting activity around our new Proper Cider campaign leading up to and around the day.

“We are committed to helping recruit more players and supporters to Rugby League and of course create more awareness of our cider. Our activities will be designed to appeal to clubs, players and fans to help make the day more electrifying than ever.”

Full news about the Championship competitions will feature in Monday’s edition of Rugby League Express.
