Hull move will help me mature, says Fonua

New Hull FC winger Mahe Fonua believes the move to Super League and the Black and Whites is the perfect opportunity for his career to mature.

Fonua has signed on for 2016 at FC after leaving Melbourne Storm – his only professional club to date so far.

But the 23-year-old Tongan international says this switch to England can help him blossom as both a player and a person.

“When I first signed I saw the opportunity to spread my wings,” Fonua told the Hull Daily Mail.

“My only club has been Melbourne Storm and coming to Hull will give me a chance to mature as a person and as a player.”

Fonua also admitted that Hull’s big plans for the future excite him, and he’s looking forward to getting stuck into work with the club.

“I saw and heard of Hull’s plans and what they are trying to do.

“It’s exciting times with the club trying to build foundations with a good core and some quality signings and I wanted to be a part of it.

“Sometimes you’ve got to back yourself and coming to this club is a great challenge for me and I can’t wait to get started.”
