Jamie Shaul piles praise on FC forwards

Hull FC full-back Jamie Shaul has added his voice to the praise being piled on the Black and Whites’ forward pack following their comprehensive victory over Huddersfield Giants last Thursday.

Coach Lee Radford singled out Garreth Carvell and Mickey Paea in his post-match press conference and now Shaul has got in on the act.

“I thought our pack were massive for us [against Huddersfield] and they set the platform for us,” Shaul told the Hull Daily Mail.

Gaz Carvell was huge for us. He took an injury but the way he came back, I thought he set the platform by himself, to be fair. It’s easy for us outside backs. It gives us time and space on the ball which we love.

“It was disappointing what happened against Salford [in the Challenge Cup] and it was really hard to kick on from that but we took it as it came, achieved what we wanted and what a way to come back.”

This Thursday, the Airlie Birds take on Hull KR in the first derby of the season. Shaul said: “The derbies, they’re the games I live for. They don’t get much bigger than that, especially going to Craven Park as well. Everyone gets behind them there so I just can’t wait.”
