HULL FC head coach Andy Last couldn’t have been more proud of his players after their late 20-16 defeat to Wigan, but it counted for very little in the grand scheme of things.
“We played with real intent which is what you need to do at this level,” said Last.
“I am really disappointed with the result but I am proud of the effort and we needed to be good.
“We needed to have intent to start the game and we were in the game for 72 minutes and there needed to be a lesson learned from last week (a loss to Wakefield Trinity).
“We had to be physical against a team like Wigan but late in the game the fatigue started to show.
“Both sides were down on middles but when you are against the likes of (Jack) Farrimond, (Harry) Smith, (Jai) Field and (Bevan) French it makes a difference.
“It is a platform to build on as we found some moments. It would be nice to be sat here on the back of a victory but we played well and lost.
“We left a couple of opportunities out there but with ten minutes to go we needed to get the process right.”
