Kingstone Press Championship team of the week named

Ahead of their huge showdown against Featherstone Rovers this weekend, Halifax’s Gareth Potts has been named player of the week in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Potts played a key role in Halifax’s 20-17 win against North Wales Crusaders – a win that moved them above Rovers into second place on the ladder. He joins the likes of Martyn Ridyard and Bradford-bound Etu Uaisele in the team of the week, with former Bradford and Wigan man Karl Pryce lining up at full-back in the team.

Speaking of Potts’ performance, Fax coach Karl Harrison said: “Gareth had an outstanding game on the right wing.

“He saved three tries for us with his defence, including one that he had no right to, and also kept the ball in play by taking a penalty on the full.

“Then he came up with the match-winning try with just four minutes left to cap an excellent performance.”

Elsewhere, Whitehaven were given the performance of the weekend award, after their huge victory against Batley Bulldogs – a win which keeps the relegation race well and truly alive.
