I knew I’d play, says Castleford Tigers prop

Craig Huby admits he always knew he would make it to Wembley and the Challenge Cup final – but says he isn’t sure whether he’ll be able to back up and play this week.

The fitness of Huby was arguably the biggest talking point heading into the final on Saturday, but the prop came through a dislocated elbow to play in Castleford’s 23-10 defeat against Leeds. However, he told reporters after the game that he trained fully throughout the week leading up the game – and he knew he would play as early as Tuesday.

“I always thought I’d do it. The medical team have been unbelievable and all credit to them for what they’ve done in two weeks,” Huby said.

“I’ve had a full week’s training which was good, I did everything the coaches had asked me to do, I was always confident. People were knocking me, doubting me but that just makes me even stronger.

“I knew Tuesday I was playing. I just proved myself I was fit and showed everyone what I could do. It feels all right now. There’s been no reaction.

“I’m not too sure about this weekend; I’m just going to see what happens regarding whether I need a couple of weeks recovery or not. We’ll see on Monday or Tuesday.”
