Kurt Haggerty rues Bradford Bulls inconsistency as injuries take their toll

Bradford Bulls coach Kurt Haggerty

BRADFORD BULLS coach Kurt Haggerty was left feeling frustrated as his side failed to build on a solid first half performance against St Helens at Odsal, where after going in at the break just two points behind at 12-10, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 40-10 defeat, whilst also facing further injury concerns.

He said: “There was a lot of positivity around the first half as we completed at 85-86%, the way we came out in the second half and an 8-1 penalty count threw us off a little bit.

“Ultimately we conceded 28 points in the second half and you are never going to win games in Super League when you concede that amount of points.

“So green shoots first half but very poor the second.

“The inconsistency in halves is getting us at the moment and we spoke in the changing rooms about attacking the next 10 or 11 games as we can’t feel sorry for ourselves – we have to learn and we have to keep scrapping.

“It’s very hard and emotional at the moment – we got beaten up in the second half but there are still a lot of positives to take from it.”

Haggerty praised the quick reaction of the players on both teams when Will Gardiner was knocked unconscious near the end of the game and was stretchered off the field after a ten minute delay.

“We lost two back rowers in the second half so we had our backs against the wall but we’ll keep going.

“Phoenix (Steinwede) is groin – he can hardly move at the moment while Dan Russell is ribs.

“Will is alert which is the good thing and the way he was treated and both teams reacted shows what fantastic people we have within this sport.”
