JACK HUGHES is back at London Broncos – but the former forward has a new role.
The 25-year-old son of ex-club owner David Hughes is now part of the off-the-field team working to take the Broncos forward under the bold leadership of Darren Lockyer, Grant Wechsel and Gary Hetherington.
Former Australia, Queensland and Brisbane Broncos back Lockyer and mining magnate Wechsel own 90 percent of the capital club and have bold plans to lead the way back to Super League.
And they have appointed Hughes, who in 2024 made three appearances for the club, two of them in the top flight, as commercial sales executive.
While he played rugby union for Northampton. where he came through the Academy, and Bedford and featured three times for the old London Skolars in 2023, Hughes also studied at Loughborough University, graduating in marketing and business management.
“I’m really excited to have rejoined the club in an off-field capacity, in our journey back to Super League,” he said.
“Businesses interested in sponsorship, hospitality or advertising opportunities – please feel free to reach out and chat about how we can partner and drive mutual success.”
Oil trader David Hughes had 27 years as the club’s owner before putting the Broncos up for sale and withdrawing his financial backing in the wake of a controversial relegation from Super League under the club-grading system in 2024.
Coach and now director of rugby Mike Eccles and chief executive Jason Loubser combined to keep the club alive, with renowned Rugby League administrator Hetherington then taking the reins with the aim of attracting new investment.
That materialised in the form of Lockyer and business partner Wechsel, who have put Papua New Guinea coach and ex-South Sydney Rabbitohs team chief Jason Demetriou in charge of the side and funded a string of high-profile signings.
The Broncos, who applied for but missed out on a place in next year’s expanded Super League, will have a mainly full-time squad in the new merged Championship.
