FEATHERSTONE ROVERS will miss “fantastic role model” Ash Prescott next season, coach Marie Colley has admitted.
The Welsh international winger or centre has announced her retirement after four seasons with Rovers.
Previously, Prescott was part of the leading Bradford Thunderbirds side and has represented the Yorkshire, England Students and Great Britain Teachers representative teams, as well as playing rugby union with Loughborough Lightning.
Part of their promotion sides in 2023 and 2025, Prescott scored the decisive try in June to earn Featherstone’s first top-flight victory in five years, against Barrow Raiders.
Rovers went on to finish sixth in the table with six wins and Prescott played in five of them, also scoring a try on her last appearance, the 18-16 win over Huddersfield Giants in the final round.
“When Ash joined us in 2023, she brought a wealth of experience, determination and an incredible desire to improve the group,” said Colley.
“She has always been the first one in the gym and the last one out. Out on the field Ash was constantly asking questions, looking to learn and finding ways to better herself.
“The commitment and attitude have made her a fantastic role model for our younger girls, something we will certainly miss next season.”
Featherstone’s Nat Harrowell Woman of Steel award for player of the season was won by captain Charley Blackburn.
Forward Emillie Holmes was the coaches’ pick while fullback Beth Macmillan was Player’s Player of the Year.
Hooker or halfback Cerys Gregory and forward Katie Evans shared Young Player of the Year.
