How it unfolded
First half: Red Devils open the scoring through Martin Gleeson, who gets his first try of the year; Greg Johnson then extends the lead after Salford dominate possession, Mullaney converts to make it 10-0; Cas hit back a minute later through Justin Carney who took a superb Michael Shenton offload to bring the Tigers within four; HT: 10-6.
Second half: Salford get first score of second half through Andrew Dixon, Mullaney converts to make it 16-6; Adam Milner is then sent to the bin for the Tigers before Salford score a fourth try – it’s Dixon’s second – and look to be ending Castleford’s unbeaten run; Weller Hauraki tries to keep it competitive with a four-pointer making it 22-10 with 15 minutes left; TotalRL columnist Luke Dorn puts Cas six behind with 10 minutes to go thanks to a superb try that was converted by Marc Sneyd; Rangi Chase slots a drop-goal to put Salford two scores clear and wins man of the match award; FT: 23-16.
