MIDLANDS HURRICANES have made former Wakefield and Salford prop Isaac Shaw their latest new addition on a two-year deal – and believe the varied experience he already has under his belt will help him make his mark in Birmingham.
The 23-year-old had two spells at home-city club Trinity, where he came through the development system, representing Yorkshire and England at youth level, to make a debut in the Super League defeat by Catalans in France in February 2022.
He made four further appearances, and was loaned out to Sheffield, before joining Villeneuve for a tilt in the French domestic competition in the first of 2023, after which he was re-signed by Wakefield, who were then waging what was to be an unsuccessful fight against relegation from Super League.
He played seven more matches for Trinity, six of them in the successful Championship season of 2024, and also turned out for Hull KR, Hunslet and Batley in temporary stints, before in August switching to Salford, for whom he featured in the last three games of a chaotic campaign.
“Isaac is a big, direct middle who will add and contribute nicely to the pack we currently have,” said Midlands coach Mark Dunning.
“We were made aware of his availability and on speaking to him I was impressed by his outlook on the game.
“He’s been in good systems and gained valuable experience at both Super League and Championship level over the last few years, which will stand him in good stead as he looks to work his way in to our team and establish himself over the next two years.”
Shaw, who emerged from the Emley Moor club between Huddersfield and Wakefield, added: “I’m over the moon to finally be able to pen a deal with Mark and the Hurricanes. I’m excited to be part of the club and by the direction things are going.
“I can’t wait to get into it, get to work and prove myself to the coaches and the fans.”
