National League game to be a four-pointer after ref injury ends first tie

THE immediate reaction of both camps, when play was unable to continue after the break in the recent National League Division One fixture between Oulton Raiders and Leigh Miners Rangers, was that the return match at Twist Lane should be treated as a genuine four-pointer.

A factor behind those views was that the game had been abandoned, through a calf injury to referee Peter Smith, with the Miners enjoying an 18-6 half-time lead.

In the circumstances National League bosses opted, during the week, to support both clubs’ opinions.

The game between the sides in Leigh on Saturday, August 8 will therefore be played for four points.
