PROFESSOR STEVEN BROOMHEAD MBE has expressed his appreciation of his time as a Warrington Wolves Board member after stepping down from his role at the Super League club.
Broomhead and Norman Summers have both stepped down from the club’s Board of Directors.
Whilst Summers has been part of the Board since 1998 , Broomhead joined in 2003 and served as chairman from late 2009 before becoming vice chairman in 2017.
“After 28 years as a Board member and non-executive member of our great club I am stepping back,” said Broomhead.
“I have totally enjoyed and appreciated working with nine head coaches, five chief executives, 450+ talented players, fans, sponsors, club staff, our community clubs, Board members and the Rugby Football League.
“I will continue to support our club as it continues its journey of progress, achievements and positive impact on and off the pitch.”
Both men, Broomhead as chief executive of Warrington Borough Council, and Summers, a senior executive for Warrington sponsors Greenall’s, were on the scene during the consortium takeover that saved the club back in 1998, less than three years into the summer game.
The Wolves were in serious debt when that consortium took over and moved the club away from its former home Wilderspool to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2004.
Summers was the chairman of Warrington Sports Holdings Ltd, the ownership group that backed the club’s rescue and the development of the new stadium project alongside Tesco at the former Tetley Walker site.
Simon Moran remains in place as owner and director, with Stuart Middleton as chairman and Mike Lomax, Karl Fitzpatrick and Stuart Browne as the other remaining directors.
The club paid tribute to both men: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to Steven and Norman for their long-standing dedication, support and commitment to the club over many years.
“Their expertise and passion for the Wire has been greatly valued, with a positive impact on the club.”
