Rochdale Hornets sign forward on loan while halfback released

ROCHDALE HORNETS have finally landed Marcus Green, with chairman Andy Mazey revealing they tried to sign the on-loan prop last year, when he joined Sheffield from Midlands.

The 22-year-old is a product of the Bradford development system, joining at 14 and progressing through the ranks to feature four times for the first team.

In 2023, he left to join Hunslet, making ten appearances before moving to Midlands after a year.

Green represented the Hurricanes, where he’d had an earlier three-game temporary spell, 34 times over two seasons, and figured in seven Sheffield matches in 2025.

“Marcus is a player (coach) Gary Thornton likes, and we made inroads to try and sign him last year, but the move was unsuccessful,” said Mazey.

“Now the timing has worked for both Sheffield and us as Isaac Reid has been recalled by Warrington and with Jordan Andrade also out, we are low on numbers in the middle unit.

“We are thankful to (Sheffield coach) Craig Lingard, who Gary knows well, and also (Eagles director) Mark Hannigan for facilitating this move.”

Meanwhile halfback Morgan Punchard has left Hornets.

The 27-year-old moved from Cornwall ahead of last season and played 20 times, with one outing this year.
