SALFORD supporters have been handed a second boost in quick succession by captain and player-assistant coach Brad Dwyer’s decision to commit for next season.
It follows the well-received news that experienced goal-kicking halfback Marc Sneyd, a popular figure in his two spells with the previous version of the club and currently at Warrington Wolves, is returning on a deal taking in 2027 and 2028.
Former Warrington, Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC and Leigh Leopards man Dwyer, 33, provided a major tonic when he signed after Salford relaunched in late December following the liquidation of the former club.
His presence among a hastily-assembled and often-changing squad has been hugely helpful, and in May, he was made assistant to Dave Hewitt, who in late March succeeded Mike Grady as coach.
The pair have overseen a pick-up in performances and results, with the addition of Sneyd and retention of Dwyer, who had been linked with a possible Super League return, a signal of the ambition to progress next season.
The latter is keen to carry on nurturing Salford’s younger players and explained: “I have been really enjoying my time in this new role and also proud of what the club are creating.
“The new role has given me a new lease of life. It puts a lot of onus on me having to deliver what we have spoken about to the lads in training.
“I have felt a bit protective over the younger players, which has probably resulted in me getting sinbinned sometimes, which hasn’t normally been what I am like.
“I have loved seeing the lads buy into what we are creating here. Myself and Chewy (Hewitt) have a great connection with them.
“I have seen a lot of growth within the club right from the start and the feeling in and around the place is great.”
