SALFORD chief executive Ryan Brierley wants to turn back the clock for the club’s loyal fans as he continues to plot a bright future.
With the CorpAcq Stadium unavailable due to pitch maintenance, the last home match of the regular league season – against neighbours Swinton – is being taken to The Brick Community Stadium at Wigan.
It’s at 2pm on Saturday and forms part of a double-header with Wigan’s 5.30pm Super League meeting with Toulouse.
Wigan was the scene of the old Salford’s memorable 28-4 play-off win over the hosts which sealed their progression to the 2019 Super League Grand Final.
Brierley, who played for and captained the former Red Devils, became chief executive when the new version was launched in December after the liquidation of the previous club.
And he explained: “I want supporters to recall that night when they were behind the sticks as the Grand Final place was secured and build some synergy moving forward.
“We have gone down a lot of avenues looking for a venue for the Swinton match, and we encountered difficulties due to both some pitches still being worked on and the start of the football season.
“I have a good relationship with (Wigan chief executive) Kris Radlinski, who I lean on for support and advice, and he came up with the idea of the double-header.
“It gives our supporters the chance to remember 2019 and also to take in a Super League match as well as our own.”
Salford recently agreed a contract extension for 2027 with Reece Stanton.
The ex-Wigan Academy second rower has proved his worth since stepping up from community club Wigan St Judes ahead of this season.
“We couldn’t be happier to keep him in Salford colours,” said his club.
